We are seeking a strong Accounting Manager who can direct the activities and functions of our Accounting Department, complete financial statements and reports, support the financial reporting for grant proposals, develop and maintain internal controls to ensure fiscal compliance with federal, state and local grants/contracts, and work congruently with all departments to provide needed service, information and support throughout the organization.

If you are someone with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Financial Management with at least 3 years' experience in managing financial/accounting operations with multiple funding streams, then this may be the place for you. If you did all this in a non-profit setting, then all the better! You will also need to understand and have experience working with the requirements of federal funding and GAAP requirement and understand how to work with donors, clients and agency personnel thru other Agency departments.

Duties and Responsibilities


Supervise the daily financial operations by developing and enforcing fiscal policies and procedures.
Preparation of financial statements and other management reports (e.g. grant reports, payroll reports, budgets) as needed/requested.
Provide oversight for the maintenance of the general ledger, preparation of payroll, billing, processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure that agency policies and generally accepted accounting practices are followed.
Assist with the annual independent audit.
Assist with fiscal oversight by developing and maintaining adequate internal controls to ensure fiscal compliance with all federal, state and local grants and/or contracts.
Provide backup for and assistance to the accounting staff.
Lead preparation of required grant financial submissions and budgets to appropriate funding sources and work to ensure the organization meets the minimum financial eligibility requirements.
Review accounts receivable billings and aging reports monthly and investigate past due accounts presented.
Review accounts payable expenditures for compliance with grant requirements.
Ensure timely reporting on grants, payroll and other financial matters.
Contribute to team effort through, regular communications and meetings, providing support and guidance to agency departments.

Staffing and Administration

Direct and supervise the work of the accounting staff
Ensure adequate fiscal staff support to the agency by determining staff work priorities, evaluating and improving processes, and adjusting fiscal staff assignments in response to organizational and operational needs.
Instruct new employees on standard fiscal operating procedures.
Maintain a positive work atmosphere in interactions and communications with, clients, volunteers, co-workers, supervisors and the public, while achieving performance expectations.
Respond to and resolve confidential and sensitive inquiries.

Minimum educational requirement of a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Financial Management.
Three years' experience managing financial/accounting operations with multiple funding streams, preferably in a non-profit environment.
Knowledge/experience with requirements of federal funding and GAAP requirements.
Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.
Knowledge of personnel management principles and practices, including employee recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, discipline and compensation administration.
Considerable knowledge of computer hardware and software (including Microsoft Office), and computerized office management applications including experience with automated accounting and financial systems.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills.
Understands and maintains donor, client and agency confidentiality at all times.
