Job DescriptionIn this role, you will be responsible for supporting existing products in security, safety, and safes markets sold in retail, commercial, and e-commerce channels. Specifically, these activities in this position include product enhancements and additions, cost improvements, qualifying alternate sources, and investigation of quality concerns. In addition, the design and development of new products is an element of this role. YOUR ROLE:

  • Develop or direct accurate 3D models on CAD, bills of materials, specifications, and other documentation necessary to conceptualize, validate, release, and implement products.
  • Ensure product designs perform as intended, are reliable, meet cost targets, and are optimized for manufacturability.
  • Analyze and interpret engineering data for new products, product enhancements, or quality investigations resulting in sound engineering solutions and recommendations
  • Work with external suppliers and internal manufacturing operations to ensure successful implementation of intended designs.
  • Interact with Product Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and suppliers to meet the customers needs in the continuous improvement of existing products.
  • Provide technical assistance to Product Engineering customers, both internal and external.
  • Drive cost savings opportunities on the existing product through material or design changespartner on cost savings activities through qualification of alternate sources or improvements in manufacturing efficiency.
  • Partner with the Quality group to develop test plans, interpret test results, and modifying designs as necessary to ensure products meet design specifications.
  • Direct the activities of Designers working on assigned projects
    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required
    • 3+ years of engineering experience
    • Ability to make clear recommendations based on cost and performance trade-off analysis across a range of design options
    • Ability to work with external suppliers to explore and develop solutions
    • Experience with managing multiple projects with excellent attention to detail to deliver solutions that meet budgets and timelines
    • Capability to perform tolerance stack analysis
    • Experience documenting design solutions through drawings and specifications utilizing an engineering change process
    • Ability to organize product testing and evaluate results leading to design action
    • Must be a result-oriented, energetic, proactive, self-starter, and a team player
    • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills can effectively communicate to all levels within an organization.
    • Proficient with Pro/E or SolidWorks 3D modeling platforms, Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with Agile software a plus.
    • Demonstrates sound engineering skills, good mechanical aptitude, and ability to perform detail orientated work with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Knowledge of tools (FMEA, DOE, FEA, Corrective Actions) is preferred
    • Experience in retail, commercial and e-commerce markets is preferred.
