SUMMARY
The Validation Engineer works directly with the Test Equipment team, Product Engineers, Program Managers, Advanced Quality Engineers, and external customers as appropriate to interpret and / or develop product specifications, test methods and test plans required for verifying and validating our products. They will also analyze and ensure the validity of test data and results. This role involves hands on work and analysis work in a very dynamic setting. -Additionally, the Validation Engineer will work closely with the other members of the Test Lab team to ensure intended product function, performance specifications and test methods are understood. This position entails is a mix of mechanical, electrical and software engineering so the ability to learn new methods and skills is a must. - While the primary focus of this role is testing methods and execution, this engineer may be called on to support test quoting, test equipment calibration and maintenance, capital justification and requisitions, and test fixture verification and runoffs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Primary Responsibilities:


  • Interface with external customers and internal engineering resources as needed, review and interpret customer requirements to ensure proper understanding and validity of test methods and test equipment
  • Analyze test data relative to product specification and recommend changes, improvements or concerns as appropriate
  • Develop test procedures and methods for verifying and validating our products
  • Cooperate with Test Equipment Engineers and Product Engineering as required, including procedures, calibration and verification of test equipment
  • Participate in Test Equipment Design Reviews and Product Design Reviews as appropriate
  • Ensure test equipment is properly calibrated and certified according to the corresponding procedures
  • Receive and verify required testing inputs (Specifications, Prints, Test Requests, Test Plans, etc.)
  • Perform various product validation testing, including monitoring of testing with complex or new setups
  • Create, review & edit test reports
  • Ensure accurate documentation; record and archive measurement data pertaining to product parameters and testing results
  • Assist and train the Test Lab Technicians on new test methods and equipment
  • Initiate and / or lead troubleshooting efforts to confirm understanding of test results looking at factors such as product performance, test equipment / fixture influence and test procedure validity
  • Determine if new equipment is needed to facilitate testing requirements
  • For testing that cannot be performed internally, identify appropriate outside lab and coordinate testing activities
  • Order test supplies / spare parts (cables, latches, etc.) as required for assigned projects
  • Support the Problem Resolution Process as required by STRATTEC quality procedures
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis of testing failures
  • Participate in customer and team meetings as appropriate
  • Support post-testing product teardown analysis activities
  • Periodic travel to customers, suppliers and other VAST / STRATTEC facilities as required

    Qualifications
    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
    Bachelor's degree in an engineering field of study and two to four years related experience and/or training

    • Five to ten years of relevant experience
    • Ability to setup and run electro-mechanical test equipment that utilizes sophisticated data acquisition systems and highly integrated systems
    • Capable of examining / interpreting complex data files (National Instruments TDMS file format) using analysis tools, to understand test part performance and equipment operation
    • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills with ability to apply formal or informal root cause analysis as appropriate (i.e. Design of Experiments, 8D, 5 Phase, Is / Is Not, Five whys, Fishbone, etc.)
    • Understanding of reliability, probability theory and statistics (i.e. Reliability and Confidence levels, Distribution analysis, Weibull distribution, etc)
    • Knowledge in electronics; analog, digital, low-voltage power, etc.
    • Experience in developing and verifying test instructions and procedures
    • Mature interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
    • Must be very well organized; able to work well with a diverse cross-functional team and varying personalities / cultures
    • Able to be a self-starter and willing to perform a wide range of activities
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Experience working with internal and external customers

      Preferred: Master's degree (MS/MA) in an engineering field of study and three to ten years related experience and / or training

      • Automotive industry experience
      • Knowledge of Quality Control principles and methodology

        LANGUAGE SKILLS
        Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. - Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. - Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. -Ability to speak Spanish is preferred but not required.

        • Good oral and written English language skills
        • Strong technical writing skills
        • Ability to effectively represent information and respond to questions in a meeting
