Position Summary: The Manufacturing Process Engineer provides process engineering support for the coating processes at the Florist Ave facility. This includes ownership of department business metrics, engineering support and project management. This position has the potential to have management responsibility for area team leaders and/or supervisors. Individuals must be able to effectively interact with all areas of the business including R&D, engineering, shop floor, management, contractors, planning & inventory control, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Owns and drives engineering improvements to production and facility processes
  • Interfaces with R&D engineering to address product and process performance concerns and to drive improvements.
  • Applies statistical process control concepts in daily activities.
  • Uses risk mitigation tools to identify risk and implement actions.
  • Interfaces with R&D on new product developments. Serves as a gate-keeper for acceptable process capability prior to launch.
  • Identifies non-value added activity and proactively improves processes to eliminate
  • Standardizes processes and procedures
  • Has ultimate responsible for department business performance
  • Monitors and maintains department metrics and performance, makes them visible
  • Own and drives process, cost and yield improvements
  • Serves as a technical resource both internal and external to area of responsibility
  • Provides input to the Annual Operating Plan (AOP)
  • Ensures team compliance to SOPs, standard work and policies
  • Ensures a safe, clean work environment while leading by example
  • Ensures effective communication with management, direct reports, peers and stakeholders
  • Interacts with planning and production flow
  • Manages budgetary performance
  • Provides support to supervisors in hiring, performance appraisals and disciplinary processes as needed. Provides direction, support and development of area supervisors and team leaders.
  • Adheres to Brady business and HR processes
  • Performs other tasks as assigned. Responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to, the duties listed on this job description.


    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



    • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry or related science
    • Minimum 1 year of prior engineering experience
    • Ability to eliminate variability, establish standard processes and ensure adherence to standard work
    • Uses data to drive decisions.
    • Uses risk mitigation tools.
    • Ability to apply engineering skills to improve manufacturing processes
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal and project management skills.
    • Ability to lead teams in a multi-disciplined operation
    • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
    • Independently driven and results orientated
    • Ability to effectively manage change in people, hardware and processes
    • Microsoft Office proficiency

      • Minimum 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
      • Process Safety Management (PSM)
      • Design for Six Sigma / Statistical Process Control
      • Process Capability understanding
      • Lean Manufacturing Background
      • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)
      • Supervision experience
      • Contractor and Maintenance interaction
      • Coatings and adhesives
      • Wide web coating
      • Solvent coating
      • Converting; slitting, winding, conveyance
      • Mixing science
