Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of University Housing, the Associate Director of Residence Life is a twelve (12) month, live-out professional position. The Associate Director is responsible for the overall management of the residence life program with the goal to enhance community members' cultural understanding, leadership skills, academic success, and social connections while fostering a community that promotes social responsibility. The Associate Director directly supervises two Area Coordinators responsible for Academic & Community Engagement and Residence Life Operations, and six to nine full-time, live-in professional Residence Life Coordinators (RLC), and supervisory authority to approximately 20 student positions.

The Associate Director is responsible for directing the daily activities of a variety of functions essential to the successful operation of the department's mission as a 24/7/365 operation. With support from direct reports, the Associate Director provides training oversight for the Residence Life professional and student staff. The Associate Director is responsible for disseminating health & safety policies, procedures, and compliance in coordination with UWM Police Department, Milwaukee Fire Department, and University Housing facilities. The Associate Director works in collaboration to support departmental initiatives with both the facilities and business operation units and serves on the University Housing Leadership Team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout a large, multifunctional department
  • Previous experience supervising Residence Life professional staff (Res Hall Coordinators, Res Hall Managers, Area Coordinators, Academic Program Managers, etc
  • Previous experience creating and evaluating residence life programs for institutional student housing communities to ensure alignment with academic initiatives, unit objectives, and strategic plans

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Masters Degree (preferably in Student Affairs in Higher Education or closely related)
    • 5+ of progressive work experience in University Housing, or a combination of University Housing and Student Affairs
    • Experience directing and evaluating residence life programs for institutional student housing communities to ensure alignment with academic initiatives, unit objectives, and strategic plans
    • Experience leading and modeling practices that foster equity and inclusion in a diverse community of residents, student staff, and professional staff.
    • Experience coordinating and executing emergency response protocols
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain, and strengthen partnership with internal and external departments or agencies (e.g., student affairs units, academic affairs, police, and fire) to support the mission of University Housing
