Penny Mustard Furnishings - our growing, family-owned chain of furniture stores in the Chicago, Milwaukee and Indiana areas - is hiring a new manager to lead the team at one of our showrooms in the Milwaukee areaThat's good right?Yes, it is! Except, well, your predecessor was good at their job. Like, crazy good. If managing an upscale furniture store was an Olympic sport, they would've taken home gold, silver, bronze, and cobalt. That's right - they'd have to create a fourth medal just for them.They were the type who would be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave even with two feet of snow and -50 wind chills. They were good. But so are you, right? You have an infectious, upbeat attitude and a stronger-than-Schwarzenegger work ethic. You have a knack for making people feel like they're your friends because, well, customers ARE your friends. You're compassionate yet firm. You're obsessed with (in no particular order): meeting deadlines, tracking progress, daily coaching, metrics, books, follow-through, self-education, professional improvement, and achieving a healthy balance of professionalism and job-appropriate shenanigans.Yeah, you'd be filling some big shoes. But guess what Their predecessor left behind some mighty big shoes, too. Just think Shaq-sized 23's. And they clunked around until, eventually, their feet grew into them.See, here at Penny Mustard, we pride ourselves on finding the right people to fill those big, honkin' loafers.But, in the end, your shoe size doesn't matter. It's the size of your heart and brain that truly make a difference.Okay, enough with deep, philosophical mumbo-jumbo. Here's the scoop.As Penny Mustard's General Manager, we expect you to: Be an enthusiastic and upbeat cheerleader for Penny Mustard. Enforce all policies and procedures. Open and close the showroom daily including lock-up and shutdown of non-essential items. Distribute and retrieve keys from employees. Manage and assign daily chores including walking the floor, cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage, vacuuming, counting drawer, replacing bulbs, turning on mirropanes, hutches and bookcase headboards, cleaning any indoor or outdoor debris, etc. See that deposits make it to the bank and deposit slips are retrieved from the bank and turned into the Accounting department. Manage all financing forms and requisitions. Oversee fabrics (i.e. organizing fabric wall or books, managing fabric check outs, pulling fabric drops, and putting out any new fabrics sent to the showroom.) Clean the showroom floor (including dusting, vacuuming, cleaning mirrors, straightening furniture and bedding.) Report damaged items or structural issues like leaks or plumbing problems to the appropriate parties. Stay current on all web-based training tools or resources and Storis updates. Monitor the task bin weekly to ensure everything sent to the showrooms has been adequately distributed. Update tags and put out new tags and promotional flyers. Update stain and wood binders as new options added or dropped. File paperwork as outlined for financing, sales slips, pick up slips and other important record-keeping materials. Conduct follow-up calls on customers and check on deliveries. Adding or removing advertisements, signs, window signage, or banners for promotions. Obtain and display proper permits. Oversee the schedule. Hold team members accountable for late or forgotten clock-ins. Set and uphold staffing expectations (standards, working on weekends, promos, etc.). Help new hires with acclimation, extensions, name tags, business cards, Friedman books, and training. Walk your staff through the Friedman sales training program. Monitor the up board. Handle any sales-splitting issues in the showroom. Make sure sales staff are using their books of business, calling on delivered sales and quotes, adding on to orders, keeping books up to date, etc. Hire new employees. Fire poor employees. Train of new hires. Handle returns on a showroom level. Coach your team (an average one-hour-per-consultant every week) with stats, role-plays, ongoing training, and more. Proactively search for new ways to improve sales. Hold your staff accountable for shopping reports. Run bi-weekly sales meetings. Attend all sales training sessions Attend all field trips (and lead field trips, if asked.)Wait.
