And to surpass our record-setting results in 2022, we are making exciting, strategic investments in key areas of the enterprise - including our internal communications group - that will accelerate our strong momentum.A core piece of that investment will be our newly created Senior Director - Diversity & Inclusion & ESG Communications - a member of the Communications leadership team responsible for both developing and carrying out a comprehensive communication strategy that amplifies D&I and Environmental, Societal, & Governance (ESG) enterprise efforts across the company across internal audiences in alignment with key business objectives. Northwestern Mutual has doubled downed on its dedication to diversity and inclusion over the last five years and established the creation of its Sustained Action for Racial Equity task force in 2020 led by the company's CEO. And, its newly established focus on ESG as a newly governed part of the company gives this role an outstanding opportunity to bring the company's efforts to life through storytelling and activation.Reporting to - and working in partnership with - the Vice President, Strategic Communications & Public Relations, the senior director will lead the development and direction of communication strategies helping to advance the company's Diversity & Inclusion and ESG strategies. This key leader role will support company leaders accountable for D&I and ESG in addition to some functional communications within Law & Public Affairs. You will also lead a team and partner across both the business and communication divisions to drive communication messaging and efforts across employee, field and external audiences.How you will do it:Develop D&I and ESG communication strategies that ensures the overarching D&I/ESG story and messaging is reaching relevant audiences and resonating.Be strategic in planning and proficient at connecting dots in a fast-paced environment.Interact and influence cross-functional teams (across the company) to drive comms planning and execution. Create objectives and key results.Be a natural storyteller, capable of crafting communications that are clear, streamlined, accessible and able to stir emotion.Be a team leader, guiding your team toward shared goals and generating positive business results.Demonstrate executive presence, with a strong EQ and the capability to establish rapport with the company's senior-most leaders.Bring a team mentality, solid work ethic, positive demeanor, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.What the role needs:Possess a bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English or a related field.Have a minimum of 10+ years of communications experience (public relations, organizational communication, marketing or related communication field)Possess deep expertise in communication strategy development and campaigns that help elevate the awareness of audiences.Has basic understanding of ESG, including a strong understanding of markets, ESG ratings and climate, and a strong interest in current events and grappling with sophisticated challenges.Has experience leading D&I communication efforts targeted to employees and/or sales force audiences.Superior verbal and written communication skills.Ability to listen to, engage, and influence clients; synthesize and relate complex information; and develop and implement enterprise-wide communications strategies.Ability to adapt style and build consensus with senior leaders and executives.Ability to take on unique problems with broad impact on the business and analyze information to make innovative business strategy decisions in a changing environment.Motivator and developer of talent.#LI-POST#IN-POSTGROW YOUR CAREER WITH A BEST-IN-CLASS COMPANY THAT PUTS OUR CLIENT'S INTERESTS AT THE CENTER OF ALL WE DO.
