Job Title: RN Surgical Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of OR experience, Recent Ophthalmology experience required License: State Nursing License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - OR experience - Experience with ophthalmology cases Description: Surgical center with 4 operating rooms. Specializes in Ophthalmology, performing retina and cataract surgeries. Covers breast oncology and distal extremity hand cases. Facility is a Level III Trauma Center. Comprehensive Stroke Center available. Includes 933 beds with 4 ORs and 23 pre/post-operative rooms. Staff conducts elective surgeries from 5 am to 5 pm. Emergent cases may occur during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Outpatient focused, including elective cataract and retina surgeries. Handles minor orthopedic cases such as carpal tunnel and cyst removals. Involves procedures in breast/plastic surgery, such as reductions and cancer cases. Patient ratios: - Pre/post-operative: 1 nurse to 3 patients - Operating Room: 1 nurse to 1 patient Support on the unit includes receptionist and charge nurse during day hours. Hospitalist available 24/7 with on-call physicians. Telemetry monitoring is provided at the bedside. EMR system is EPIC. IV pumps utilized are Alaris. Medication dispensing system is Pyxis. Monitors are GE. Scheduling includes weekend rotations with on-call responsibilities. Call scheduled during weekdays from 3 pm to midnight and weekends from 6 am to midnight. Response time for on-call cases is 30 minutes with no sleep room available. Holiday expectations require on-call availability. Approval for time off will go through the manager. Scrub colors will be provided, though travelers need to bring OR shoes that have not been outside the hospital. Fatigue policy in place prohibits working more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
