Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A stepdown nurse role is available at a busy 31-bed intermediate care unit specializing in cardiac and multi-system conditions. This 13-week contract offers 36 guaranteed hours per week on 12-hour night shifts, with every other weekend and holiday rotations. Candidates should be prepared to float within nearby facilities as needed, working with like patient populations. Location The position is based in Milwaukee, WI, a vibrant city known for its scenic lakefront, diverse cultural attractions, and rich history. Qualifications and Desired Experience Current RN license in WI or Compact RN AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 1 year cardiac nursing experience, with 2 years managing multi-system patients preferred At least one completed travel contract preferred Proven short-term acute care hospital experience Epic charting experience within the last 12 months Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation and routine cardiac care for populations including open heart surgery, arrhythmias, chest pain, heart failure, acute MI, and other thoracic procedures ICU nurses with comfort managing appropriate patient ratios are also considered Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care for cardiac and complex medical patients Manage patients with diverse diagnoses including heart failure, sepsis, strokes, respiratory failure, and medical overflow cases Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based care Float to similar units as needed based on census and patient care needs Adhere to all clinical standards and policies, including COVID-19 protocols Schedule 12-hour night shifts Every other weekend and holiday rotation No on-call or call-back requirements This role demands a resilient, adaptable nurse comfortable managing change in a fast-paced environment.
