Photo and Studio Director.
Photo & Studio Director at Wantable is an exciting opportunity
for a highly motivated individual, looking to use their expertise
to create dynamic photography, and lead a team of photo production
team members. The ideal candidate will offer innovative ideas on
creative growth, create a scalable and efficient vision to elevate
Wantable’s aesthetic while also staying ahead of industry trends.
Working side by side with the Creative team, this position will
help provide the direction and lead the creation of on-brand
photography for all marketing channels + internal needs, and guide
their team in doing the same.
The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in commercial
photography, lighting, production management and fashion + product
Photo Direction: Deepen customer engagement and conversion by
continuously driving the creation of innovative and engaging visual
experiences. Collaborate with the Creative, Marketing, and
Merchandising departments to determine project goals + specs, and
plan and carry out photoshoots & photo production. Collaborate with
Associate Creative Director and internal partners to develop and
produce new visual photo/video assets for multiple mediums
including digital, video, print, social, etc.
Vision and Photo Team Elevation: Maintain current knowledge of
competitive landscape as well as photographic and design trends.
Create engaging visual solutions that enhance and elevate the
brand. Provide innovative conception of photography styling, set
backgrounds and surfaces. Successfully guide and move forward
multiple projects at one time.
Photo Studio & Process: Create a process and flow with the
merchandising team to take in product (samples) for stream and
marketing assets. Create a sample tracking process. Track
equipment, send out for repair, and purchase new studio supplies +
equipment as needed. Develop and maintain asset management
processes. Drive best practices and continuously refine and
optimize existing processes. Share results with leadership.
Team Leadership: manage a team of Staff/Freelance Photographers,
Photo Assistants, Photo Stylists, production teams and retouchers.
Hire and on-board new team members. Assign daily tasks, track
hours, and provide performance reviews based on KPI’s. Provide
cross-functional educational opportunities as requested. Work to
develop and document lighting, design sets, and guide Photographers
to replicate when needed. Lead Photo team to create consistent,
high quality imagery while meeting daily output goals.
Off-Figure photography: use props, backgrounds, and lighting to
create desired visual effects. Photograph outfit flat lays, product
grids, and room scenes in-studio and on-location. Light, style, and
photograph individual product pin-ups + flat lays.
On-Figure photography: photograph models and employees in-studio
and on-location for Marketing Campaigns, Ecomm, and internal needs.
Collaborate on-set with Talent, Hair and Makeup Artists, Photo
Stylists, Photo Assistants, and Art Directors. Balance high-volume
shoot days with an uplifting attitude, and the ability to think
creatively while under pressure.
Photo Styling: gather dynamic, on-brand collections of
merchandise and props to photograph. Work both independently and
with a team of Photo Stylists to physically style looks and product
for photoshoots. Keep up-to-date with the latest fashion and
styling trends, and offer creative ways of representing those
trends within each photoshoot.
Photoshoot Production: bring creative vision to fruition by
maintaining an organized photoshoot schedule, booking contractors,
sourcing equipment + locations, scouting talent, and creating shot
lists for each project.
Department Documentation + Budgeting: ensure all Photo
department expenses are tracked, and manage projects to ensure they
stay within budget. Document KPI’s, product information, and other
Requirements 7+ years working in a commercial photography studio
3+ years of management or photo art direction experience.
Bachelor or Associates degree in Photography, Fine Art, or a
Lighting status: whiz. Understand the nuances of creating from
scratch with studio lighting, or using a combination of strobe and
ambient light on-location. Enjoy the challenge of creating beauty
no matter what the scenario is. Use flash, daylight, modifiers,
gels, etc. to attain various lighting qualities. Eliminate
distracting reflections, bring out the detail in merchandise, and
create flattering light for the face and figure.
Capture One: use for tethered shooting, file organization,
layout and editing, and to process files for post-production.
Photoshop, Mac OS + Retouching: color balance, make local
adjustments, and perform basic retouching.
Process Oriented + Highly organized, with a knack for finding
new efficiencies. We’re looking for a person with an analytical
eye, who is able to problem-solve and offer innovative ideas in a
fast-paced creative environment.
Resourceful and solution-oriented. Whether it’s helping to make
a less-than-glamorous photoshoot location look like a dream,
sourcing an unusual prop, or offering a creative solution to a
problem, our team prides itself on figuring out how to get the job
done with heart + hustle.
Flexible and Adaptive. As projects change to reflect the goals
and growth of the business, our Senior Photographer + Studio
Manager must remain nimble and be able to quickly shift priorities
while maintaining productivity.
