Job Description:

Reporting to the VP/GM of General Industry, the Director of Technology leads a global team of engineers and technicians to align technical resources to execute on business goals for the General Industry's unit of the Commercial Systems group. The team is approximately 50 people comprising of Development Engineers, Application Engineers, Technicians, Program Managers & Functional Managers located in US, Mexico and India. The disciplines that are in the team are Mechanical, Electrical, Software/Firmware, Analytical Engineers focused on developing Motors (AC, DC, PMAC and ECM). Working closely with Product Management, Sales and Operations peers, this role will help drive the future expansion of the business with new products and into new markets. This leadership position will have responsibility to leverage the voice of the customer for product & technology differentiation and develop a product innovation & technology roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, support, inspire and direct multi-discipline engineering groups to generate high levels of performance
  • Lead the engineering team to develop products for General Industries Segment for REGAL's Commercial Systems that meet required performance, quality, cost and manufacturability standards
  • Provide Technical & Business Leadership to the Team
  • Responsible for making substantial contributions to improve product development processes and execution
  • Support external and internal customers with cross functional partnerships to identify needs and maintain current design with quality, cost, manufacturability and regulatory improvements
  • Direct, support, and monitor department managers to accomplish goals, consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures
  • Stay up to date with new tools and technologies that will enhance the team's engineering capabilities
  • Budget (headcount, consulting, prototyping, equipment, travel, professional development, patent, etc.)
  • Provide monthly status update on strategic initiatives to VP/GM of General Industry and Segment President for Commercial Systems

Engineering & Technology Leadership

  • Lead product and feature development activities for new Products, Program Management, Application Engineering, Samples Engineering and Requisition Engineering
  • Develop a technology roadmap supporting Product Roadmap
  • Develop and enforce Engineering best practices
  • Refine and manage the product development process, including stage gates, validation planning and execution, and coordination of launch activities with Engineering Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing
  • Consistently drive improvements in key metrics, including speed-to-market, spec-achievement, first-pass quality, and schedule attainment. Evaluate and optimize metrics to ensure that the impact to the company's success is being appropriately monitored

Product Leadership:

  • Partner with Product Management to ensure technology roadmaps are clearly defined and realistic with high customer value
  • Ensure Product meet the Business and Customer Expectations (Features, Cost, Quality, Reliability)
  • Implement product development methodologies that reduce time to market
  • Apply Design Thinking principles to define customer-centric solutions
  • Champion a growth mindset that embraces challenge and views obstacles as opportunities
  • Evaluate and establish program priorities in alignment with business objectives

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with in-depth industry experience and a true passion for the motor technology or a similar industry. You must have exceptional project management skills, record of building high performance teams. A strong work ethic with proactive communication skills that encourages courageous conversations are a must.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or similar Engineering discipline. Master's/MBA degree preferred
  • 10 years' experience in leading and managing a Global Engineering Group
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  • Leading a large and multidisciplinary Engineering Group.
  • Developing & Innovation of Industrial Products using a Stage-Gate/Agile Process
  • Engineering process and documentation management
  • Interfacing with Operation and Manufacturing organizations during new-product technology introduction and scale to manufacturing process
  • Working in fast-paced, collaborative work environment with a bias towards increasing speed to market
  • Working in a cross-functional and geographically dispersed team environment
  • Commercializing new products in a production environment is preferred
