Job DescriptionSUMMARY OF POSITION:Program, set up and operate
hydraulic press brake to form parts to customer requirements to
produce a finished product of the highest quality and consistency
within tolerances and specifications established by the customer.
Responsible for forming parts, loading, unloading machine, moving
material in area manually (physical movement) or using overhead
crane or forklift.Press brake operator will load and run press
brake machines to shape metal to exacting specifications, following
precise calculations using their talents for mathematics and
measuring.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Daily work duties
for Operator vary based on the manufacturing projects they work on
and the various metals they use to make items. These core job
tasks, however, are common across most work assignments:
- Shape Metal - Press brake operator will use the press brake to
shape multiple types of metal, primarily sheet metal. To do so, the
operator will load pieces of metal into the machine for shaping or
straightening, aligning, and positioning the material to achieve
specific shapes and hold predetermined tolerances /
measurements.
- Maintain Press Brake - Press brake operator will set up and
maintain the press brake machine to keep it in good working order.
Good housekeeping is an expectation that encompasses the general
cleanliness of the press and surrounding area. The storage and
cleanliness of the tooling used in the press brake machine.
- Read Blueprints - Press brake operator must be able to read and
follow detailed blueprints and schematics. These prints will be
wide in variety and the operator must be able to interpret a
variety of symbols, shapes, and measurements. Operator must be able
to discern tolerances, and additional information from information
boxes provided on the blueprint.
- Inspect Sheet Metal - Press brake operator will monitor sheet
metal as it's being shaped, inspecting pieces of fresh sheet metal
for imperfections and overall quality. Operators need to be skilled
in the preparation of material to be used on the press brake and
able to discern the corrective action to ensure an acceptable
finish is produced after operation at the press are finished.
- Follow Safety Regulations - Press brake operator will follow
all company, state, and federal safety regulations. This includes
wearing proper protective equipment and keeping their work areas
clean and well organized. Operators should have a record of safe
operation and safety rule adherence in their work experience.
Operators will adhere to all safety protocols listed in the
employee handbook.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSPress brake operators need
to have the following essential job skills:· Physical fitness -
Operator will work with their hands, lifting and moving large
pieces of metal, and stand for hours at a time, all of which
requires physical strength and stamina.· Analytical thinking -
Problem solving is a needed attribute as it will be utilized
daily.· Mathematics - Operator will use math skills to read and
interpret blueprints that contain precise measurements and use
these skills to make the calculations necessary to shape metal to
match specific designs, and measurements.· Communication skills -
Operator will need the use of verbal communication skills to work
in a collaborative environment with other manufacturers and factory
workers.· Measuring - Operator will work with multiple measuring
tools and make precise measurements using metric and US measuring
systems, operators require strong measuring skills to be successful
in their adjustments and finish work.· Time management - Operator
will use time management skills to work within deadlines and
complete tasks efficiently while monitoring quality and
safety.Additional Information: Candidates shall have a high school
diploma or GED.
- Candidates must have previous press brake experience.
- Operators will have no less than 2 years' experience working in
a manufacturing environment running a press brake.
- Some training is provided to press brake operators, but this is
not considered an entry-level job. Press brake operators need to
have the necessary skills and knowledge to operate the press brake
successfully, so training is brief. While in training, press brake
operators are closely monitored by shift supervisors and may work
with a senior press brake operator before performing tasks
alone.PROTECTIVE CLOTHING REQUIRED:The position requires safety
glasses & steel toed shoes; occasionally additional safety
equipment will be requiredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:While performing
the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit;
talk or hear, and use one's hands to finger, handle, or touch
objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand
and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend
or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift
up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.The above
