Job Description & Requirements

Research Co-Leader, Cancer Biology in Wisconsin

StartDate: ASAP

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Cancer Center has made a strategic decision to expand on its strengths in Cancer Metabolism, Structural Biology, Immuno-Oncology, and Precision Oncology and seeks leading investigators within these scientific areas. The MCW CC has three research programs: Cancer Biology, Discovery & Developmental Therapeutics, and Cancer Control. In partnership with clinical science and basic science departments, the MCW CC now invites applications from qualified investigators in these scientific areas, at the Associate or Professor level, for a research program leadership position as Cancer Biology Research Program Co-Leader.

Research Program Co-Leaders are responsible for the scientific strategic planning and programmatic oversight of the research program. This position offers a competitive salary, benefits, and incentive and relocation packages. In addition, a research startup package and an endowed chair will be provided commensurate with the candidate's accomplishments. The successful applicant will have a track record of maintaining a vigorous, extramurally funded research program in their area of expertise. Applicants must hold a Ph.D., MD/Ph.D., or MD degree.

Cancer Biology Research Program Aims

The Cancer Biology Program has 44 members with approximately 50 active funded projects. The program-specific aims are to 1) characterize genetic, epigenetic, and post-transcriptional events driving malignancy, 2) identify structural and functional determinants of cancer drivers, and 3) define cancer regulatory mechanisms in the tumor microenvironment.

Cancer is the top strategic priority of MCW. On September 12, 2022, MCW broke ground on a new 160,000 sq. ft. cancer research building which will centralize cancer research programs, labs, and shared resources across campus into one primary location designed to enhance cross-discipline research through forming scientific neighborhoods. The cancer center is simultaneously investing $100M in five parallel research initiatives that include recruitment of tenure-track faculty at all levels in Structural and Chemical Biology, Immuno-Oncology, Cancer Metabolism, Precision Oncology, and Cancer Disparities, providing broad opportunities for both basic science discovery and the translation to cancer therapeutics.
