Accounting Assistant - Treasury Hourly Pay Rate: $19.46 to $21.81 Closing Date: January 24, 2022 Job Summary: Under general supervision, to maintain journals, ledgers, records and reports. Retrieve information and reports using on-line banking software and prepare accounting entries for bank transfers. Match incoming receivables with outstanding invoices, prepare and post all delinquent tax payments received for delinquent taxes. Prepare and record daily bank deposits for the Treasurer's Office and for delinquent tax payments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Review bank activity for incoming payments for outstanding receivables, "Positive Pay" exceptions and deposit verification reports for checks issued. Prepare bank deposits for the Treasurer's Office, Prepare "Cash" and "Non-Cash" reports for daily deposits
* Prepare and post all delinquent tax payments received for delinquent taxes and prepare a bank deposit and a cash receipt document for these payments
* Prepare Journal Voucher to reflect daily bank activity for the County
* Record stop and/or void payment requests, prepare and record replacement checks for the following departments: Payroll, Accounts Payable and Retirement
* Maintain Unclaimed Funds List, prepare paperwork when a claim is made.
* Approve "Cash Receipt" documents on a daily basis in the Advantage Accounting System
* Receive and document deposits from other County Departments, answer telephone inquiries for Delinquent Property Taxes.
* To record, store and retrieve files and information when necessary and complete other duties as may be assigned. """"" Minimum Requirements: * High School Diploma or GED
* Current Wisconsin Resident
* One (1) or more years of experience working as an accountant
* Candidate must possess excellent analytical skills
* The ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 30lbs
* Intermediate level with Microsoft Excel Preferred Experience: * Prior experience working in accounts receivables would be helpful
* Associate or higher degree in accounting Required Skills and Abilities: * Experience using a personal computer, scanner, copier, fax and multi-line phone
* The exchange of basic information with internal and/or external contacts.
* Maintain sensitive or confidential information
* Explain and gather information, answer queries, or ask assistance with internal and/or external contacts
* Persuade, conform or recommend course of action with internal and/or external contacts
* Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, reports, short correspondence and memos
* Makes decisions of responsibility involving evaluation of information; decisions may require development or application of alternatives or precedents
* Understand and follow instructions. Execute decisions within limits of standard policy and procedures
* Interpret and adapt to established practices and procedures using independent judgment to meet situations to which applications are not clearly defined.
