Position Description:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a
multidisciplinary health care team who providing a broad range of
diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the
inpatient services as a member of the Department of Surgery- Trauma
Surgery and Acute Care Surgery services.The Department of Surgery -
Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is seeking a full time clinically
strong and competent Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in
emergency general surgery, critical decision making and ability to
assess, diagnose and treat patients in an inpatient setting located
at Froedtert Hospital.The APP position requires a strong clinical
competence in surgical critical care, critical decision making and
ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients in an ICU setting.
The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice
and ensure an environment of safe quality careScheduling
flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient
care coverage. Full-time with coverage expectations for the
majority days on the weekend and rotational holiday coverage
expectations. Would consider full-time with coverage expectations
for both weekday and weekend/holiday rotational coverage with 2 out
of 5 weekend coverage in a 5-week block.

- Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies
normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and
psychosocial status.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment
plans.
- Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
- Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
- Performs procedures as trained and appropriately
credentialed.
- Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and
completes other necessary documents.
- Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health
care providers as appropriate.
- Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding
current health problems, health maintenance activities and
preventive behaviors.Department Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in
diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring surgical
intervention in inpatient environment as a member of the Trauma
team.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes,
and/or admission and transfer orders.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic
procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents
information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by
the trauma/critical care surgery services.
- Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to
promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements,
including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint
Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of
this team through participation in the development of quality
indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends
in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field,
through educational programs, in-services, professional associates,
and current literature.
- Attends daily rounds with faculty and Trauma physician team,
presents 24-hour patient report.
- Performs tertiary surveys.
- Acts as a liaison for communication of care plans and discharge
destinations from ICU to floor teams. Attends care coordination
rounds as able.
- Participates in Trauma performance improvement activities to
ensure the quality of care and effectiveness of service.

Minimum Education:Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or
higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician
Assistant Studies Minimum Requirements: *or eligibleAdvanced

Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner Wisconsin Physician Assistant
License
Wisconsin RN License Certification by NCCPA
Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
Acute Care CertificationAHA BCLS, AHA ACLS, DEA, ATLS (will train)
and CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Experience:
Previous APP acute care experience preferred - 2 years+ or 3-4
years in trauma in trauma surgery, critical care, or emergency
medicine preferred. Inpatient clinical management experience also
preferred.
