Job Description:
TEKsystems has a client that is in a need of a Systems Engineer
to focus on VMware and have experience with Linux and Network
Administration.
Working under minimal supervision, this role concentrates on the
design of infrastructures including servers, storage, workstations,
middleware, non-application software, networks, and the physical
facilities that support the applications and business processes
required by the business. Included in the focus areas is the
critical evaluation and selection of the software and hardware
components of the infrastructure. Best practices in this role use
various techniques including modeling, simulation, and testing to
validate the designs and selected products. The Systems Engineer is
responsible for performance, availability and scalability of the
infrastructure.
*Responsibilities:*
- Develop standards and procedures that provide for efficient
operation of systems.
- Create and Maintain systems documentation, security plans, WIs
and SOPs.
- Analyze and assess systems for proper operation.
- Actively monitor and report on systems to track SLAs.
- Provides users with network technical support responding to the
needs and questions of end users regarding their access to
resources on the network.
- Assisting in hardware/software procurement activities as
required
- Provide application support for development and business
groups
- Prepare and submit requests for purchasing and follow up with
deployment.
- Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols and
standards.
- Remain current on existing system hardware and software for
technology changes and hardware/software upgrades.
- Pursues a program of self-development through the use of
selected reading, seminars, and participation in continuing
education.
- Identifies and communicates possible improvements in the work
process for customers and peers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or
upper management.

- Work with executive team members, decision makers, and
stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and
to identify and resolve business systems issues.
*Technical Skills*
- Knowledge of operating systems, including Linux and Windows
based systems.
- In-depth Knowledge of Active Directory
- In-depth knowledge of virtual environment design,
implementation, and maintenance (e.g. VMware)
- Knowledge of server software used on servers supported by the
Administrators.
- Knowledge and experience with installation of memory, modems,
network cards, video cards, routers, hubs, and similar hardware
equipment
- Familiar with the installation and maintenance of network
equipment such as switches, routers and firewalls
- Knowledge of RAID, VLANS, TCP/IP protocols, DHCP and DNS
- Knowledge of Antivirus Strategies
- Familiar with Windows Scripts, VBScript, BASH or PERL
scripts
- Experience with ESX and/or Windows Hyper-V virtual
environments
- Expert knowledge of network systems, topologies and
technology
- Strong knowledge and experience in the installation and
maintenance of network equipment such as switches, routers and
firewalls
- Demonstrated, thorough knowledge of key protocols such as TCP,
IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SNMP, etc.
- Develop standards and procedures that provide for efficient
operation of the servers and systems.
- Analyze and assess systems for proper operation.
