For more info about FAA, visit us at www4.uwm.edu/faa Job Summary The Power Plant Operator-Senior (PPO-Sr.) positions will perform all duties in a professional manner, with an emphasis on customer service. These positions work under general supervision, performing a full range of duties associated with a large and complex power plant. The PPO-Seniors will normally work on shift under the direction of the Power Plant Operator-ln Charge aiding in the operation of the plant. Individuals in this classification will also operate and maintain the auxiliary heating plants. . The UW-Milwaukee operation consists of the Downer Avenue Central Heating and Chilling Plant, Great Lakes Research Facility, USRB, ICAB, Zelazo, Hefter, Kenilworth, Zilber SPH, Alumni House boiler plants, and the Lake Michigan Pumping Station. While under the direction of the Power Plant Operator-In Charge, the primary goals of these positions are: * To assist in the startup, operation, and shut down of boilers, chillers, boiler/chiller auxiliary equipment, other plant ancillary equipment, and to monitor and adjust plant operating systems and equipment to meet campus utility demands. * To perform emergency, routine, and preventive maintenance on plant systems and equipment. * To act as Operator-In Charge on a temporary or emergency basis as required. Starting pay rate is between $22.00/hr. - $26.00/hr. commensurate with experience and education. These positions require a 12-month probationary period upon hire. Minimum Qualifications * One year or more of general facility maintenance experience and/or six months or more of central heating/chilling plant maintenance experience. * Boiler and/or chiller equipment training as indicated by a course completion certificate and/or 6 months or more of on-the-job central plant boiler and/or equipment operating experience. * A valid Driver License and a driving record sufficient to operate a State vehicle. * Possess the ability to physically fit through a 12" X 19" manway boiler opening (AIMS question) Preferred Qualifications * Certification by the Department of Safety & Professionals (DSPS) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the handling of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerants * A high-pressure Boiler Operator's license [i.e., National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers, Inc (NIULPE) or American Society of Power Engineers, Inc.
